New York-based private equity firm Sagewind Capital has invested in Perry, Georgia-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services provider Sigma Defense Systems for an undisclosed amount.
Sigma Defense's technical services are intended to help defense and intelligence community customers transmit ISR sensor data via tactical relay transport systems, Sagewind said Wednesday.
News of the investment came after Sigma Defense named John Wilcox, former chief information officer of U.S. Special Operations Command, as CEO and appointed Matt Jones, former president of SAP National Security Services' mission systems business, as president.
Sigma Defense founders Thor James and Scott Ritchie will continue to have a “significant equity ownership” in the company and help manage the organization as chief operating officer and chief growth officer, respectively.
“Having known the business since inception, I know firsthand the incredible job that Scott and Thor have done supporting mission-critical initiatives for the US Government,” Wilcox said, adding that he will work with his fellow executives to steer the company's next growth phase.
DC Advisory served as Sagewind's exclusive financial adviser and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison acted as its legal counsel on the investment deal.
Maynard Cooper & Gale provided legal services to Sigma Defense in the transaction.
