State Department Clears $104M Sale of Northrop-Made Large Aircraft IR Countermeasure Tech to Egypt

The State Department has approved a potential $104M foreign military sale to Egypt of one Northrop Grumman-built (NYSE: NOC) system for protecting aircrews from incoming infrared threats.

The Egyptian government asked to buy an AN/AAQ-24(V)N Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures system for integration onto the country's head-of-state airplane, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.

The LAIRCM system features five missile warning sensors, three Guardian laser turret assemblies and various electronic technologies designed for data storage and processing.

DSCA noted the proposed sale also includes personnel training, technical documentation, engineering, logistics and program support services.

A company representative will stay in Egypt for one year to perform advisory work once the agreement is implemented.

The transaction will also have a two-year option period for the orientation of system operators and maintenance personnel and support of the original equipment manufacturer factory.
