DISA said in a notice posted Wednesday on the beta SAM website that the request for information will support the Army’s efforts to deploy a commercial satcom as a service capability that will provide global access to users of the Department of Defense and Army’s sustainment information systems.
According to the request for information, the U.S. Space Force’s Commercial Satcom Office is seeking potential satcom-as-a-service offerors on behalf of the Army as the latter works to establish its updated Sustainment Tactical Network.
The Army’s current satcom network is comprised of 4,000 Very Small Aperture Terminals that handle combat service support data for supply and maintenance operations.
The service noted that it plans to lease a satcom as a service, including network aggregation points and terminals.
Col. Shane Taylor, the Army's project manager for tactical network, previously said the service seeks both material deliverables as well as leasing cost models to support long-term satcom as a service implementation, AFCEA reported Wednesday.
Contract work will include demonstration activities for up to six terminals in the second quarter of fiscal year 2021.
