The service received 18 proposals for the Skyborg prototyping, experimentation and autonomy development contract and will obligate funds and determine work locations upon award of each delivery order, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
Skyborg is a Vanguard program and an autonomy-centered capability that could help the Air Force deter and counter adversaries through the use of low-cost UAVs. The program seeks to facilitate manned-unmanned teaming, providing manned systems with key data for greater survivability and situational awareness during combat missions.
Work on the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will run through July 2026.
The Air Force sought technical proposals for the Skyborg program in May through a broad agency announcement.
