Smiths Detection has agreed to purchase Baltimore, Md.-based environmental testing and biotechnology company PathSensors for an undisclosed sum in a move to expand technology offerings for detecting chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats.
Both parties expect to close the transaction within one month, pending customary closing conditions, Smiths Detection said Tuesday.
PathSensors designed its products to detect the presence of pathogens such as anthrax, ricin, Ebola and salmonella. The company has also developed an aerosol detection tool to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Roland Carter, president of Smiths Detection, said the deal is part of a push to grow biothreat detection offerings and expand into new markets.
