The Social Security Administration has awarded Verizon a potential 10-year, $525M contract to replace the agency's current phone systems with a unified communications platform.
SSA announced the selection of the company's network services business for the Next Generation Telephony Project in an award notice posted Friday.
The UC will be built to consolidate voice, video, contact center and desktop services for the agency. The single platform is intended to replace SSA's National 800 Number Network, Headquarters Telephone System and Telephone System Replacement Project.
According to SSA, the NGTP system will use the agency's storage area network and data center virtual infrastructure.
