General Dynamics to Expand Navy LCS Combat System Support; Carlo Zaffanella Quoted

General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) mission systems subsidiary will update and sustain the integrated combat management system of some Littoral Combat Ships under a potential $393.8M contract awarded in late October.

The company said Thursday it serves as the prime contractor for the Independence-variant LCS combat technology modernization project covering hardware, software, weapons and sensors.

œOur team recognizes the increasingly critical role LCS plays in the Navy™s littoral battlespace, and the essential part LCS plays in defeating anti-access and asymmetric threats in the littorals,” said Carlo Zaffanella, vice president and general manager of maritime and strategic systems at GDMS.

Zaffanella added the company helped build the fleet’s mission systems with the use of computing architecture and is ready to help the service branch incorporate new features into the class.

The five-year contract, which has a $90.6M initial value, also includes technology insertion, training, logistics and technical support services.
