Cameron Chehreh, chief technology officer of Dell EMC™s federal sector, has said the U.S. Air Force™s information technology modernization effort within its air and space operations centers presents three factors government agencies should consider as they seek to update their IT infrastructure and one is to “identify small programs that roll up into a broader strategy.”
Chehreh wrote that agencies should use scale-out strategies to update their infrastructure and look at cloud as an operating model.
“The goal is not simply to move to a public cloud service provider but to operate with cloud-like efficiency. Strategies should focus on deploying efficient and effective IT in today™s world, with cloud as one element,” he added.
Chehreh discussed the Air Force™s partnership with Pivotal Labs to develop a cloud-based application that works to predict aerial refueling needs using analytics and algorithms.
He also cited the service branch™s use of Agile development process and hyperconverged infrastructure to build the tanker refueling app as well as its plan to develop software-based weapons platforms through its Kessel Run unit.
