Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) has won a potential $479.1M other transaction agreement from the U.S. Army to produce augmented reality technology prototypes for potential use in military training and battlefield missions.
A contract award notice posted Wednesday on FedBizOpps says the company will provide hardware, software and associated interface control documentation as part of the Army™s Integrated Visual Augmentation System program.
The service expects Microsoft to manufacture as many as 2,550 IVAS prototypes over a two-year period, according to a solicitation notice.
Bloomberg reported Thursday the Army could order more than 100K company-built HoloLens headsets as a result of the agreement.
