The U.S. Navy has awarded five companies separate contracts to provide a conceptual design of the service™s future guided missile frigate.
The Naval Sea Systems Command received six proposals for the firm-fixed-price contracts as part of the FFG(X) ship program, the Defense Departmentsaid Friday.
The military branch will use the conceptual design phase to inform the final specifications in a request for proposals for the follow-on design and construction contract.
Contract details are as follows:
Austal USA: $14.9 million base value and $21.4 million ceiling value
Bath Iron Works: $14.9 million base value and $22.9 million ceiling value
Fincantieri: $14.9 million base value and $22.9 million ceiling value
HII: $14.9 million base value and $22.9 million ceiling value
Lockheed: $14.9 million base value and $21.9 million ceiling value
Work will run through June 2019 should the service exercise all options.
Each of the companies will get $1.2 million in fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funds that will expire by the end of the current fiscal year and another $11 million in fiscal 2018 R&D, test and evaluation funds at the time of award.
