BAE Unit to Modernize Navy Dock Landing Ship Under Potential $184M Contract

A business unit of BAE Systems has secured a potential $183.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to execute fiscal 2018 modernization work on a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship.

The Defense Department said Tuesday BAE’s Norfolk Ship Repair business will help the service branch maintain, update and repair USS Tortuga systems as part of the Chief of Naval Operations maintenance availability effort.

The Naval Sea Systems Command received two bids for the firm-fixed-price contract via a full and open competition on the FedBizOpps website.

DoD noted the service branch will obligate $139.8 million in fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance and “other” procurement funds at the time of award.

Work will occur in Norfolk, Virginia, through May 2019.
