A joint venture of Granite Construction and Obayashi has received a potential $164.9 million contract from the Naval Facilities Engineering Command to provide design-build services for the future Marine Corps Base in Guam, Stars and Stripes reported Friday.
The Granite-Obayashi JV will help the service branch prepare a potential 400-acre site for the construction of administrative, bachelor housing and operational structures within the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Site Finegayan boundary.
The base will be built to accommodate nearly 4,000 Marines who will transfer to Guam from Okinawa, Japan, in the coming years.
The Japanese government will fund the project as part an international agreement between Japan and the U.S.
Work under the firm-fixed price contract will include clearance of unexploded ordnance; historic property stewardship; and waste and stormwater management support.
Follow-up projects for Marine Corps Base Guam are scheduled to commence in fiscal year 2020.
