A joint venture of Huntington Ingalls Industries™ (NYSE: HII) Stoller Newport News Nuclear division, Honeywell (NYSE: HON) and Jacobs Engineering Group (NYSE: JEC) has received a notice to proceed from the Energy Department‘s National Nuclear Security Administration to manage and operate the Nevada National Security Site.
The Mission Support and Test Services JV will start on Aug. 1 the transition activities to facilitate operations and management work at NNSS, HII said Monday.
Michael Lempke, president of technical solutions™ nuclear and environmental group at HII, said the company will work to leverage its 60 years™ experience of supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and DOE™s Savannah River Site to provide site management and nuclear operations services for NNSS.
The notice came more than a month after NNSA awarded MSTS a potential 10-year, $5 billion contract to run and manage the site.
Nye County, Nevada-based NNSS works to carry out scientific experiments and support nuclear emergency response efforts to ensure security of the U.S. and allied countries.
