The State Department has given Kuwait the go-ahead to procure Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft and related components and support from the U.S. government under a potential $10.1 billion foreign military sales agreement.
Boeing, Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC), Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) and General Electric will act as principal contractors for the sale that covers 32 F/A-18E fighter jets and eight F/A-18F planes equipped with F414-GE-400 engines, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Thursday.
Kuwait will use the aircraft and related services to build up its homeland defense, address warfare threats, support coalition operations and facilitate interoperability with U.S. forces.
The FMS transaction also covers AN/APG-79 Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, M61A2 20mm gun systems, AN/ALR-67(V)3 radar warning receivers, AN/ALE-47 airborne countermeasures dispenser systems, LAU-127E/A guided-missile launchers, fuel tanks, link-16 platforms and joint helmet mounted cueing systems.
The contractors will also provide aircraft spares, identification friend or foe systems, night vision goggles, training assistance, flight test services, storage and preservation services, avionics software support, engineering, logistics and technical services as well as assign representatives to Kuwait.
