Fairfax County Board OKs General Dynamics Plan for Reston, Virginia HQ Site

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) will move to establish a new corporate headquarters on a 21-acre property in Reston, Virginia after the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the aerospace and defense contractor’s development plan.

Fairfax County said Thursday that General Dynamics plans to move 175 employees from the current 175, 000-square-foot office it leases at Fairview Park in Falls Church to 11011 Sunset Hills Road in Reston.

The company proposed the construction project with the local government in January.

General Dynamics’ future campus will have 160, 000 square feet of office space and a three-level underground garage and surface lot that will feature 250 parking spaces.

The project allows for the expansion of the office building at a later date as well as includes a 10-foot, shared-use path that will connect to the Washington & Old Dominion Trail and the Wiehle Reston-East Metro Station.

The company will leave 84 percent of the 21 acres of wooded lot as open space and committed to offer 9, 431 square feet for the development of a local urban park.
