Aprio Acquires Nextfed, O’Connor Consulting Services

Business advisory and accounting firm Aprio has acquired Nextfed and O’Connor Consulting Services, or OCS, for an undisclosed sum to accelerate growth in the government services market and nonprofit industry.

Nextfed Purchase

“Nextfed’s team brings a rare combination of government, aerospace, and commercial knowledge, and strategic foresight,” Aprio CEO Richard Kopelman said in a statement published Wednesday.

“Their experience strengthens Aprio’s ability to serve clients in the defense, aerospace, and government contracting sectors with integrated, forward-looking solutions,” Kopelman added.

Nextfed Managing Partners Aaron Myers and Timothy Reardon, along with other executive team members Josh Myers and Brian Sweeney, will join Aprio as partners and members of the firm’s aerospace defense and government advisory practice.

Established in 2011, Nextfed is a strategy consulting and merger and acquisition advisory firm with deep experience in the defense, commercial aerospace and government services sectors.

The Arlington, Virginia-based firm has a network of about 200 senior advisers and provides strategic counsel for public and private sector customers. Its capabilities span M&A advisory, strategic planning, proposal strategy, business development, post-merger integration and corporate transformation.

Acquisition of O’Connor Consulting Services

OCS is a Washington, D.C. area-based firm focused on providing business advisory and interim outsourcing services for nonprofit organizations. Founded in 1999, the firm supports the nonprofit industry through its interim CFO and controller services, strategic planning and financial analysis, finance department assessments, audit facilitation, system selection and implementation support, and federal and private grant advisory services.

“Aprio is continuing its purposeful expansion—bringing together exceptional talent and specialized capabilities to better serve our clients. The addition of O’Connor Consulting Services is a powerful step forward in that journey. Their deep nonprofit experience and trusted reputation in the Washington, D.C. area, as well as other key markets, significantly enhance our ability to deliver high-impact, business advisory services to mission-driven organizations,” said Kopelman.

OCS President and Founder Kathy O’Connor, along with OCS Vice President Trina Gallaher, will oversee Aprio’s nonprofit consulting practice.

On June 1, four OCS partners and the firm’s 25 experienced professionals joined Aprio as a result of the transaction.

The McLean Group served as adviser to OCS in the deal.
