SciTec secured a $259 million contract from the Space Systems Command on Apr. 24 to enhance the missile warning and tracking mission of the U.S. Space Force.
FORGE EOS Contract Scope
The SSC said Tuesday the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution, or FORGE, Enterprise Overhead Persistent Infrared, or OPIR, Solution contract is intended to continue the development of the government-owned FORGE framework. It aims to build upon the existing framework, providing a secure and scalable ground processing capability. This is meant to reinforce the service branch’s missile warning and tracking mission while boosting the development of threat-responsive technologies to help warfighters.
The FORGE Enterprise OPIR Solution, or EOS, contract, awarded through a competitive SSC Space Enterprise Consortium Other Transaction Authority, or SpEC OTA, prototype agreement, also aims to provide the basic hardware and software infrastructure necessary for the development, management and hosting of OPIR mission data processing applications. In addition, the contract will integrate capabilities from FORGE and non-FORGE efforts to ensure interoperability and mission flexibility.
What Is FORGE?
FORGE is the fundamental platform for a resilient OPIR ground architecture. It supports legacy Space-Based Infrared System and Next-Gen OPIR satellite payloads, such as Next-Gen OPIR GEO, Polar, Medium Earth Orbit and Low Earth Orbit constellations.
The cyber-resilient and modular FORGE framework facilitates the intake of significant volumes of data, efficient upgrades and real-time wideband processing, enabling it to meet real-time data processing needs of the Next-Gen OPIR satellites and future sensors.
Lt. Col. Daniel Groller, SSC FORGE materiel leader, said, “By delivering a scalable, cyber-secure, and modular ground processing capability designed to meet the demands of an evolving OPIR enterprise, we ensure our warfighters have faster, more reliable access to critical missile warning and tracking data for modern warfare.”
