Northrop Grumman has booked a $175.6 million contract from the U.S. Air Force for the procurement of its radio frequency countermeasure, or RFCM, system.

The Department of Defense said Friday the company will modify its AN/ALQ-251 RFCM system for use by the Royal Australian Air Force.

AN/ALQ-251 RFCM System Contract Scope

Under the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, Northrop Grumman will design, evaluate and manufacture an RFCM system with a new configuration as requested under the RAAF C-130J-30 program. The company will also provide repair, support and program management services for the project.

Contract work will primarily occur in Northrop’s facility in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. The project is set for completion by March 27, 2029.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center in Robins Air Force Base, Georgia will obligate the whole amount $175.6 million from foreign military sales funds at the time of award.

What Is AN/ALQ-251 RFCM System?

The AN/ALQ-251 RFCM system is an advanced electronic warfare system designed to protect the C-130, C-17 and other large aircraft from radar-guided threats. It provides enhanced situational awareness capabilities, enabling rapid detection, identification and countermeasures against millimeter wave systems and similar advanced and agile threats. The RFCM’s modular, open systems allow the flexibility to adapt to future threats.
