Corvid Technologies, a small business offering technology-based services, has secured a potential $268.4 million contract from the U.S. Navy for the procurement of sub-orbital vehicle configurations.
Short/Medium SSOV Contract Details
The Department of Defense said Friday the firm-fixed-price contract covers the design, manufacture and delivery of short and medium range sub-orbital vehicle configurations. The Mooresville, North Carolina-based company will also provide ground test hardware, special test equipment, materials and required engineering support and launch support services.
The Navy will receive 90 percent of the orders, while Australia and the United Kingdom, through foreign military sales, account for the remaining 10 percent.
Corvid will conduct 37 percent of the work at its facility in Moorestown. Around 24 and 20 percent of the project will take place at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico and Glen Burnie, Maryland, respectively. The remaining tasks will be performed at Las Cruces, New Mexico; Conroe, Texas; Huntsville, Alabama; San Nicolas Island, California and Wallops Island, Virginia, as well as outside the country, particularly in Benbecula, Scotland; Woomera, Australia and Kekaha, Hawaii. The contract is set to be completed by February 2026 but may extend to February 2030 if all options are exercised.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division, or NSWC PHD located at White Sands Detachment in Port Hueneme, California, serves as the contracting activity. It will allocate $80,000 from the Navy’s fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of the award. The said amount will expire after the current fiscal year.
In 2019, Corvid landed a five-year $223.3M contract to deliver hardware, equipment and components for the production of sub-orbital flight vehicles to the Navy, other government agencies and Japan.
