Teledyne Closes $710M Purchase of Select Excelitas Aerospace, Defense Electronics Businesses

Teledyne Technologies has completed its acquisition of select Excelitas Technologies aerospace and defense electronics businesses for approximately $710 million in cash.

The company said Monday the acquired businesses include Excelitas’ U.K.-based optical systems business operating under the Qioptiq brand and its U.S.-based advanced electronic systems, or AES, business.

The deal was initially announced via a joint release in November 2024.

Forming Teledyne Qioptiq

Teledyne will integrate the acquired businesses into its aerospace and defense electronics segment, which will operate as Teledyne Qioptiq.

Among the offerings of the U.K. optical systems business are advanced optics for heads-up and helmet-mounted displays, dismounted tactical night vision systems and proprietary glass for space and satellite applications.

Meanwhile, the U.S. AES business is known for its custom energetics, such as electronic safe and arm devices, high-voltage semiconductor switches and rubidium frequency standards for defense and space applications.

Teledyne Executives on Excelitas Businesses Acquisition

“We are pleased to have expeditiously closed this acquisition, which represents our tenth corporate carve-out transaction,” commented Robert Mehrabian, executive chairman of Teledyne.

“Teledyne Qioptiq adds new technology and highly complementary products and customers, and we are delighted to welcome this business and its employees to Teledyne,” Mehrabian added.

George Bobb, president and chief operating officer of Teledyne, said integrating Teledyne Qioptiq’s technologies with the existing defense products would enable the company to provide additional solutions to its customers.
