Anduril Awarded $99M Air Force Thunderdome Contract

Anduril Industries, a defense technology contractor, has secured a firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract worth $99 million from the U.S. Air Force for prototyping projects for the Phase III of the Thunderdome Small Business Innovation Research, or SBIR, initiative.

Lattice-Driven Prototyping Projects

The Department of Defense said Friday Anduril will provide rapid prototyping projects leveraging the Lattice core software capability. The company will conduct the work for the sole source acquisition contract in Costa Mesa, California. The project is expected to run through Feb. 13, 2030.

AFWERX, the Air Force’s innovation arm based in Dayton, Ohio, serves as the contracting activity. It will allocate an initial amount of $8.4 million from fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Anduril’s Lattice Mesh is a secure, decentralized network that shares data across services, domains, platforms and long distances. This mesh networking capability enables critical data access in challenging environments. It connects Anduril and third-party systems worldwide, providing support in real-world operations.

In October 2023, Anduril secured two contracts valued at $8 million from the Air Force to enhance AFWERX’s autonomy capabilities. The projects involved the Ghost uncrewed aircraft system, which also utilizes the Lattice software platform.
