State Department OKs $95M Raytheon Patriot Tech Assistance Deal for Taiwan

The State Department has approved a request by Taiwan’s economic and cultural representative office to obtain technical assistance and related equipment for the Raytheon Technologies-built (NYSE: RTX) Patriot air defense system through a $95 million foreign military sales transaction with the U.S. government.

The Taiwanese government is seeking contractor support to maintain, field and operate the weapon system for use in homeland defense and regional deterrence missions, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.

DSCA does not expect the proposed sale to affect defense readiness in the U.S. and the agency noted that implementing the transaction will not require an additional overseas deployment of government or contractor representatives.

Raytheon’s Global Patriot system is designed to help military personnel counter enemy ballistic and cruise missiles, drones and aircraft threats.
