Bechtel Receives $872M in Navy Nuclear Propulsion Contract Modifications

A Bechtel subsidiary will continue to manufacture naval nuclear propulsion components for the U.S. Navy under a pair of contract modifications worth $872 million combined.

Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate to Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. the full amount of the first award totaling nearly $622 million, the Department of Defense said Monday.

The second award has a potential cumulative value of $250 million if the military service exercises options.

NAVSEA modified two of the three contracts awarded to BPMI in November 2018 for the development and installation of nuclear propulsion systems on Navy submarines and aircraft carriers.

Work will take place in Schenectady, New York, and Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
