Maxar’s On-Orbit Servicing Robot Clears Critical Design Review; Robert Curbeam Quoted

TYSONS CORNER, VA, March 16, 2021 — The SPace Infrastructure DExterous Robot being developed by Maxar Technologies (NYSE: MAXR) in support of a NASA program has passed its critical design review and is now expected for delivery in the first half of 2022, ExectiveBiz reported Thursday.

A company-made spacecraft bus will carry the SPIDER which will contribute to the space agency’s On-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing-1 initiative by reconfiguring and assembling satellites.

“We hope to see this technology leveraged for a multitude of commercial and government space missions, including commercial satellite servicing, in-space telescope assembly and human exploration on the Moon and beyond under NASA’s Artemis program,” said Robert Curbeam, senior vice president of space capture at Maxar.
