Former Astronaut Rick Mastracchio Joins Orbital ATK as Senior Operations Director for CRS Program

Rick Mastracchio, a former NASA astronaut, has joined Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA) as senior director of operations for the Commercial Resupply Services program within the company’s space systems group.

Orbital ATK said Monday Mastracchio will oversee the CRS mission and cargo operations teams and support other programs for the human space systems organization.

“With his experience as an astronaut and his time spent on the International Space Station, Rick brings a unique understanding of human space flight, making him an invaluable resource for our human space flight endeavors,” said Frank DeMauro, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s advanced programs division.

Mastracchio, who was part of three space shuttle flights as a mission specialist and has logged 228 days in space, will be based in Dulles, Virginia.

He has also served as an ascent/entry guidance and procedures officer for mission control, the cockpit design lead on Orion and the Constellation deputy branch chief.
