Executive Mosaic, Tysons Corner, VA March 7, 2017 — Matt Desch, CEO of Iridium Communications, has been inducted into this year’s Executive Mosaic Wash100, for his leadership in the launch of the company’s NEXT satellite constellation.
The Wash100 is the premier group of private and public sector executives selected by Executive Mosaic’s organizational and editorial leadership as the most influential voices in the GovCon sector and recognized for their leadership and impact in shaping the industry.
Under Desch’s leadership, the Virginia-based Iridium launched 10 Iridium NEXT satellites on Jan. 14 as the initial batch in a $3 billion program.
Six other launches are scheduled through early 2018 to complete the 81-satellite constellation that will replace the current group in orbit.
“It’s a very technically complex process and highly choreographed to replace the existing satellites now and validate everything,” Desch told ExecutiveBiz ahead of the January launch.
Iridium NEXT will serve as a potential alternative navigation system to GPS and work to provide communications, tracking, internet and mobile phone services to private and public sector customers.
