IBM, Partners Build Cloud Marketplace to Help Secure Chip Supply Chain

Zachary Lemnios and Terry Halvorsen of IBM (NYSE: IBM) said the company has led the development of a marketplace in a hybrid cloud environment meant to secure the development and production of microelectronics for the Department of Defense and commercial industry.

IBM established the Marketplace for Advanced, Rapid, Quantifiably-assured, Trusted Semiconductors in partnership with companies, including Boeing (NYSE: BA), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC), Raytheon Technologies’ (NYSE: RTX) intelligence and space business, Nimbis Services, Marvell Government Solutions, Intrinsix, Cadence (Nasdaq: CDNS), Colvin Run Networks and PDF Solutions (NASDAQ: PDFS), Halvorsen, a previous Wash100 Award winner, and Lemnios wrote in an article published Wednesday.

MARQTS comes with a security scoring metric to help protect each component from evolving threats and is expected to be operational in support of the defense sector in less than two years, Lemnios and Halvorsen said.

The marketplace was developed as part of IBM’s work on DOD’s Rapid Assured Microelectronics Prototypes Advanced Commercial Capabilities Project.

Lemnios is vice president for IBM Research and former assistant secretary of defense. Halvorsen is general manager and client development leader for U.S. public and federal market at IBM and former chief information officer at DOD.
