Yasser Ibrahim
Yasser Ibrahim, former science and engineering leader at Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), assumed the role of senior vice president of artificial intelligence at public safety technology provider Axon (Nasdaq: AAXN) on March 9.
He will report to Jeff Kunins, Axon’s chief product officer and executive VP of software, as he leads the AI team through the company’s Seattle-based global software hub and works with an independent board that seeks to deploy AI technologies with an ethical design framework, Axon said Wednesday.
Kunins said he is pleased to welcome Ibrahim, who brings to the company decades of AI experience and ability to recruit and retain science talent.
"I am passionate about Axon's mission to protect life, and the products we are inventing and delivering on behalf of customers are at an incredibly exciting intersection of public safety, responsible AI, and multimodal machine learning," Ibrahim said.
Axon’s AI team is working on automatic license plate readers, video redaction, automated transcription of body camera video, gunshot detection and other public safety systems.
Ibrahim previously served as head of distributed machine learning for Amazon’s Alexa AI. He also held tech leadership roles at Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and CAE.
