Matthew Schneider, senior director of government, education and healthcare at VMware (NYSE: VMW), has said agencies seeking to modernize their information technology infrastructure should know more about the security and behavior of their applications and eliminate apps reliance on the physical infrastructure.
When an application is independent of the infrastructure, agencies have the ability to seamlessly support that application if it needs to move from a physical data center to another or even into a cloud,” Schneider wrote.
And it can be done while retaining the same security policies, visibility and application continuity, he added.
Schneider noted that agencies should optimize the use of automation tools to capitalize on virtual and physical infrastructure as well as remove repetitive tasks in order to focus on critical operations.
He called on agencies to maintain a level of security, control and visibility across cloud-based and on-premises IT environments and bring security to the application with the adoption of virtualization.
As an application moves between data centers or into a variety of cloud environments, the security standards and tools must move with the application to ensure the protection of the data and the protection of the agency, Schneider added.
