Verizon (NYSE: VZ) will provide mobile devices and wireless network support to the Department of Veterans Affairs under a potential nine-year, $448.3 million-dollar contract awarded in March.
The award is part of the VA’s follow-on Enterprise Mobile Devices and Services program and offers the department access to the Verizon Frontline public safety communications platform, the company said Tuesday.
Under the expanded partnership, the telecommunications company plans to help the department adopt mobile edge computing and software-defined wide-area network systems.
“Verizon has a long-standing partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, including connecting the first fully 5G-connected hospital at the VA facility in Palo Alto and the VA Video Connect telehealth service, which provides over 80,000 veterans with free, unlimited access to health care consultations,” said Maggie Hallbach, senior vice president of Verizon’s public sector business and a 2023 Wash100 awardee.
The VA will procure products and services through the EMDS 2 contract for agency field and program offices, remote users and health care facilities.
