Jon Clay, vice president of threat intelligence at TrendAI, a Trend Micro business unit, said companies are introducing artificial intelligence-enabled tools to help government agencies protect their networks as AI adoption creates a new attack surface.
“IT administrators need to know what AI applications their employees are using and what data the tools are ingesting,” Clay wrote in an article published on Carahsoft.com.
The TrendAI executive noted that nation-state actors remain the top threat to federal networks, seeking access to information on employees or on military and trade plans. He added that these actors also work to disrupt critical infrastructure and are investing in ways to breach operational technology networks to plan future attacks.
What Infrastructure Supports the TrendAI Zero Day Initiative?
Clay said the TrendAI Zero Day Initiative has spent 20 years building the infrastructure needed to manage responsible disclosure of AI-era vulnerabilities. He explained that the initiative relies on a global network of more than 19,000 independent security researchers and maintains relationships with software and AI infrastructure vendors. The VP stated that this coordinated disclosure process has generated tens of thousands of public advisories on common vulnerabilities and exposures.
What Is TrendAI Vision One?
TrendAI Vision One is an AI-driven cybersecurity platform that supports integrations with cloud environments and any type of endpoint, including mobile devices, personal computers, operational technology, Internet of Things sensors and servers. Clay noted that the platform’s TippingPoint and Deep Discovery components examine network traffic to help detect exploits and lateral movement. He added that Vision One also secures email and messaging systems and can feed firewall data into an agentic security information and event management product to speed up threat identification.
The TrendAI executive said Vision One also helps users map their attack surface through cyber risk exposure management, addressing blind spots around assets like OT and IoT devices that lack security agents. He noted that the platform scores risk at both the asset and network level and offers recommendations to mitigate risks.
How Does TrendAI Support Sovereign Security for Government?
Clay added that TrendAI supports sovereign private clouds and sovereign data centers, providing agencies with an added security layer by allowing them to run air-gapped networks using on-premises tools rather than cloud-based software as a service.
The VP explained that TrendAI divides its work into two focus areas, using AI to strengthen threat detection and building safeguards around AI itself as agencies adopt it across their operations. He noted that the company sees itself as an AI-native organization with a focus on helping agencies keep pace with evolving cyberthreats.
