Todd Borkey, most recently chief technology officer at HII’s (NYSE: HII) Mission Technologies division, has assumed the role of executive vice president and CTO of the Newport News, Virginia-based defense and technology services contractor.
He will report directly to HII President and CEO Christopher Kastner and oversee research and development and other aspects of the company’s technology strategy to build new capabilities and improve products and services to achieve market growth, HII said Monday.
“Todd has demonstrated true leadership in developing synergies between HII’s technologies and platforms, enhancing speed-to-mission for our customers and supporting our growth,” Kastner said.
Borkey said HII handles over $1 billion in R&D, test and evaluation work on an annual basis and is ready to support the Department of Defense mission in the next 10 years with new capabilities in several tech areas, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, cyber and electronic warfare and live, virtual, constructive simulation and training.
Before HII, Borkey was CTO at Alion Science and Technology, Thales Defense and Security and DRS Defense Solutions. He also held engineering and management roles at Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and AT&T Bell Labs earlier in his career.
