The State Department has approved potential sales ofRaytheon Technologies-built (NYSE: RTX) MK 54 all-up round lightweight torpedoes worth $163.3M combined to the governments of Germany and Belgium.
The German government’s $130M request covers 64 MK 54 torpedoes, 10 conversion kits and associated equipment from Raytheon’s integrated defense business, the Defense Security Cooperation Agencysaid Thursday.
Germany also intends to procure LWT containers, recoverable exercise torpedoes, fuel tanks, fixed-wing support accessories and test equipment as well as training, engineering and logistics services as part of the foreign military sale.
According to DSCA, to potential sale is meant to help the NATO ally update anti-submarine warfare technologies for its P-3C maritime aircraft fleet.
In aseparate notice, DSCA said Belgium requested for 29 MK 54 Mod 0 units as well as two conversion kits, associated equipment and similar contractor support services for a total of $33.3M.
Belgium’s request is intended to help its navy phase out its MK 46 torpedoes and enable submarine target engagement from multimission frigates and NH-90 twin-engine helicopters.
DSCA noted that the U.S. may be required to provide interim government engineering and technical services to the ally for integration and installation work.
The agency added that it notified Congress of both potential FMS agreements on Thursday.
