State Department OKs Potential $10B Sale of HIMARS Launchers to Poland

Poland has requested to procure Lockheed Martin-built (NYSE: LMT) high mobility artillery rocket system launchers and related equipment from the U.S. government under a $10 billion foreign military sales agreement approved by the State Department.

The proposed FMS transaction includes 18 M142 HIMARS launchers, tactical missile systems, extended-range alternative warhead pods, low-cost reduced-range practice rockets, communications equipment, batteries, laptop computers, test sets and spare and repair parts, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.

Lockheed will serve as the principal contractor in the proposed deal, which will enable Poland to advance its armed forces modernization efforts and broaden its capability to deter regional threats and build up its homeland defense.

The proposed FMS deal also covers publications and technical data, personnel training and equipment, logistics, systems integration support, sensors and contractor engineering services and will require the deployment of government and contractor representatives to the European country to conduct program management reviews and support equipment deployment and training efforts.

DSCA said it notified Congress of the potential transaction Tuesday.
