The State Department has approved an $825 million foreign military sale request from Morocco for the purchase of FIM-92K Stinger Block I missiles and related equipment.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday RTX and Lockheed Martin will serve as the principal contractors for the project.
Under the proposed deal, Morocco will procure up to 600 FIM-92K Stinger Block I missiles as well as non-MDE items, including U.S. government and contractor engineering, logistics and technical support services, and related logistics and program support elements.
Stinger Missiles to Bolster Morocco Air Defense
Morocco aims to modernize its armed forces and strengthen its short-range air defense capabilities against existing and future threats with the potential acquisition of the Stinger surface-to-air missiles. The proposed FMS is also intended to enhance interoperability with the U.S. and other allied nations.
Furthermore, the proposed sale aligns with foreign policy and national security initiatives of the U.S., which aim to enhance the security of Morocco, a non-NATO ally, and ensure political stability and economic growth in North Africa.
The DSCA notified Congress of this potential sale Tuesday.
