The State Department has approved a potential $600 million foreign military sales agreement with the government of Slovakia to buy 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters, 26 T-700 GE 401C engines and related equipment and services from the U.S. government.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday Textron’s (NYSE: TXT) Bell subsidiary and General Electric (NYSE: GE) will serve as principal contractors in the FMS transaction, which covers advanced precision kill weapon systems, GPS and inertial navigation systems and support and test equipment.
The deal also includes countermeasures, spare and repair parts, software delivery and support, communications equipment, weapons and munitions, U.S. government and contractor engineering, program services and technical and logistics support services.
Slovakia expects the proposed sale to enable its air force to meet national defense requirements and improve its capability to counter existing and future threats.
Execution of the proposed transaction will require the temporary deployment of government and contractor representatives in Slovakia to support program and technical reviews, training and maintenance efforts over a 24-month period.
To support the FMS program, about two contractor support representatives will also be required to reside in-country for two years.
DSCA notified Congress of the potential sale Wednesday.
