The State Department has cleared a potential $5 billion foreign military sales request of Germany to buy up to 600 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptors and related equipment and services from the U.S. government.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will serve as the prime contractor in the proposed FMS transaction, which also includes launcher and modification kits, MSE conversion kits, tools and test equipment, spare and repair parts, range and test programs, training equipment and technical documentation.
The European country will use the PAC-3 MSE missiles and associated equipment from the proposed sale to strengthen its military’s defensive capabilities, meet existing and future threats, enhance national and territorial defense and improve interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces.
PAC-3 MSE comes with a two-pulse solid rocket motor and works to defend against cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, aircraft, hypersonics and other incoming threats.
The FMS deal also covers systems integration and checkout, engineering, quality assurance team support, program assistance and logistics services.
DSCA notified Congress of the proposed sale Thursday.
