The State Department has approved Saudi Arabia’s potential $582 million foreign military sale request to procure hardware and software from the U.S. government to replenish and modernize its RE-3A tactical airborne surveillance system aircraft fleet.
The proposed FMS deal covers seven Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System security systems with selective availability anti-proofing module and five L3Harris Technologies-built (NYSE: LHX) BlackRock communications intelligence sensor suites, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday.
Saudi Arabia also requested Identification Friend or Foe cryptographic applications, signals intelligence systems, multiband receivers and transmitters, high-frequency radios, precision navigation and cryptographic devices and spare and repair parts.
L3Harris will serve as the principal contractor on the transaction, which does not require deploying government and contractor representatives to Saudi Arabia.
DSCA noted that the modernization effort will enable Saudi Arabia to strengthen its homeland defense and boost interoperability with U.S. and allied forces.
