The U.S. Space Force formally awarded the contract to DRS Global Enterprise Solutions, which SES Space & Defense acquired in 2022, the satellite communications company said Wednesday.
David Fields, president and CEO of SES Space & Defense, noted USSF established the agreement “as a mechanism to enable access to commercial X-band capacity globally” for department users.
He added the company believes the BPA can serve as a foundation block for military-commercial satcom integration initiatives.
Under the contract, SES will work with system integrators and teleport operators to help DOD address communication requirements through a global terrestrial network.
The effort will make use of GovSat-1, a satellite the company’s joint venture with the government of Luxembourg operates.
