Oliver Schabenberger, chief technology officer at SAS Institute, will assume additional duties as chief operating officer at the Cary, North Carolina-based analytics software company beginning on Jan. 1.
SAS said Monday Schabenberger will oversee customer support, sales and marketing efforts and help the firm implement business priorities and provide strategic direction as COO.

Schabenberger, who will continue to serve as CTO, is a fellow of the American Statistical Association who joined SAS in 2002 as a research statistician developer with a focus on both linear and nonlineral mixed models.
He held other senior leadership roles during his 15-year tenure at SAS such as vice president for analytic server research and development and technical lead for high-performance analytics.
He previously served as an associate professor of statistics at Virginia Tech and Michigan State University prior to his move to industry.
