RTX Books $118M Army Contract to Update UAS Sensor Payload

RTX (NYSE: RTX), formerly Raytheon Technologies, has secured a potential $118 million contract from the U.S. Army to update a common sensor payload for MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft systems, Inside Defense reported Wednesday.

Dennis Teefy, project director for the Army’s sensors aerial intelligence, said the updated CSP system features a new camera with short-wave infrared capabilities to provide better resolution in low-light conditions.

The “undefinitized contract action” falls under a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. In September 2019, the company was awarded $427.3 million to continue CSP development, production and sustainment services.

The Army expects to start deploying the General Atomics-built Gray Eagle drones with updated CSP systems by fiscal year 2027.
