Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) are in negotiations with Sierra Space over the possible sale of their joint venture , United Launch Alliance , in a deal that could be worth approximately $2 billion to $3 billion, Reuters reported Friday.
People familiar with the matter said the discussions could end without a deal.
According to analysts, buying ULA would enable Sierra Space to advance the deployment of its crewed spaceplane into orbit by gaining access to the former’s launch vehicles.
Sierra Space, which has considered a public offering, spun off from Sierra Nevada Corp. in 2021 to focus on fielding to market its Dream Chaser spaceplane and developing a space station habitat with Jeff Bezos-owned space company Blue Origin .
In December, reports emerged that Blue Origin and private equity firm Cerberus made bids for the Boeing-Lockheed joint venture.
