TYSONS CORNER, VA, June 20, 2016 The Eutelsat 117 West B geostationary satellite, which was equipped with Raytheon‘s (NYSE: RTN) GEO 5 payload built for the Federal Aviation Administration‘s Wide Area Augmentation System, has been sent to space aboard a SpaceXFalcon 9 rocket, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.
Raytheon said Wednesday the WAAS GEO 5 payload works to support the satellite’s global positioning system and will be part of a 12-year mission.
“Extremely accurate navigation technologies make this system a critical resource to keep our national airspace safe, ” said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services unit.
