Michael Byrd, a 28-year federal information technology market veteran, has joined Rancher Government Solutions as vice president of ecosystems and partner management.
His appointment comes as Reston, Virginia-based RGS looks to accelerate its federal market growth initiatives, the open source software provider said Thursday.
Paul Smith, RGS CEO and three-time Wash100 winner, noted Byrd is well known in the government partner, distribution and systems integration sectors.
“He has run many successful sales organizations for years and has always focused on his team’s personal and professional career growth as well as the success and satisfaction of his partners and their customers.”
Byrd spent more than 18 years at Red Hat where he previously managed the software vendor’s North American partner ecosystem and led its public sector channel sales as a VP.
He started in government sales at Sun Microsystems in 1995 and stayed there for more than 9 years. Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) in 2010.
