Rick Howard, chief security officer at Palo Alto Networks (NYSE: PANW), has said agencies that aim to develop and implement strategies to safeguard information technology systems from cyber threats should adopt DevOps.
Howard wrote that DevOps link to automation and cloud technology has implications for agencies adaptive cybersecurity strategies and that the discipline seeks to recognize that application development is a system of systems and works to help agencies expedite the creation of apps.
The discipline is based on the premise that the process of developing, conducting quality assurance, deploying, maintaining and incorporating security into IT systems is similar to a manufacturing production line, he added.
Howard called DevOps a holistic approach to app development since it encourages practitioners to collaborate, advance automation and adopt a continuous delivery pipeline.
He noted that the discipline provides agencies an opportunity to automate the process of deploying software and immediately identify issues as well as recall and fix any security vulnerabilities in apps.
