The U.S. Air Force has awarded Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA) a five-year, $67 million contract to manufacture AIM-9PSidewinder missile rocket motors for foreign military sales customers.
The Defense Departmentsaid Thursday $8.4 million in foreign country military funds will be obligated for the initial delivery of Orbital ATK-built SR-116 motors to Bahrain, Egypt and Taiwan under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
Orbital ATK will perform work at the company’s tactical propulsion and control systems manufacturing facility in Rocket Center, West Virginia, through Feb. 27, 2022.
The Sidewinder air-to-air missile is carried by fighter aircraft and designed with an infrared heat-seeking guidance system and a high-explosive warhead.
