Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has received a five-year, $111 million contract to modernize and sustain U.S. Navy aircraft that functions as the service branch’s communications relay and airborne command post.
The company said Wednesday it will set up a production line at its Aircraft Maintenance and Fabrication Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana to carry out integrated modifications on the E-6B Mercury platform.
Work under the contract includes updating the aircraft’s command, control and communications systems that support data exchange between the national command authority and the nuclear triad.
“We are laser focused on providing the most relevant capabilities while improving mission readiness,” said Mary Petryszyn, president of the defense systems sector at Northrop and a 2022 Wash100 Award recipient.
The Navy uses its E-6B aircraft, manufactured by Boeing (NYSE: BA) and derived from the 707 airframe, as part of the “Take Charge and Move Out” mission.
