The polar-orbiting satellites will be used to monitor the northern polar region, serving as a key element in strategic missile warning for national security.
According to Northrop, NextGen Polar will be equipped with modernized sensors to cover the entire northern hemisphere and advance the U.S. missile warning mission. Its enhanced communication system will also enable the transmission of wide-band OPIR data to the ground.
