TYSONS CORNER, VA, Aug. 28, 2017 ” Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) aims to update the RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle in response to a Missile Defense Agency requirement for a drone with capacity to carry heavy loads including a laser weapon, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.
Flightglobal reported Thursday that MDA’s high-altitude, long-endurance drone effort calls for a platform with a payload capacity of up to 12,500 pounds, can fly at an altitude of 63,000 feet and load a high-energy laser that will work to counter an intercontinental ballistic missile during its boost phase.
