Schneider Electric has received a self-funding energy savings performance contract from the U.S. Navy to help implement infrastructure updates across 90 buildings that work to generate energy cost savings of $114 million.
The contract requires the implementation of data center and electrical enhancements as well as energy conservation measures at Naval Base Coronado and Naval Base San Clemente Island through 2018, the company said April 5.
Schneider Electric added the project aims to generate the target energy cost savings through a 19-year term post-construction and expand the Navy’s renewable energy portfolio at no additional cost.
“Federal facilities face a number of unique challenges, including aging infrastructure coupled with today’s climate of rising overhead costs, limited budgets and government mandates, making it essential for these facilities to run at maximum efficiency at all times, ” said Jeff Sherman, Schneider Electric director for federal energy and sustainability services.
Sherman added the company — through the ESPC — will work to help the service branch achieve its energy conservation goals and meet government mandates without using taxpayer funds.
Infrastructure updates required under the contract cover:
6, 300 lighting fixtures/controls
2, 100 tons of cooling equipment
2, 000-MBH boiler plant
476-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system
Two five-megawatt substations
1.5 MW backup diesel generator
Five performance optimized datacenters with 72 IT enclosures, 30 in-row cooling units and 10 power distribution units
Building envelop update
Control enhancements for energy conservation measures and building systems
